Ethos and Values
Across the YMCA Movement At the YMCA, everything we do - whether with individuals or community groups - is influenced by the YMCA's values, which are as important to us today as they were when the organisation was founded in 1844.At the heart of YMCAs across the world is a strong Christian ethos which is reflected in a genuine motivation to serve others. Whilst some of the people who work or volunteer for the YMCA share a Christian faith, our ethos also warmly welcomes people of other faiths (or of no faith) to participate in YMCA activities, to volunteer for the YMCA, or to seek employment with the YMCA.At Doncaster YMCAOur 'together towards tomorrow' slogan is a summary of our present vision statement. We recognise that working together as young people, volunteers, board members and staff is the best way to build a strong and vibrant YMCA community. Encouraging people to be the best that they can be, to set personal goals and to achieve those with us, is a fundamental part of our work. Everyone working or volunteering at the YMCA has a clearly-defined role. Each person is appointed entirely on merit. We embrace diversity in its broadest sense, and we welcome anyone with relevant experience and skills to apply for work with us. We encourage everyone to embrace that diversity - not because we have to, but because we genuinely believe in the equal value of all people. Christian faith isn't a consideration in the selection process for any of our present vacancies.
